Last week, Real Values for Texas supporters emailed Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick asking him to send SB 1084 to committee and he listened.
On March 16, the bill was moved to the Senate Finance Committee. You can keep this legislation moving by asking the Senate Finance Committee to hold a hearing on SB 1084.
The legislation would ensure that commercial property owners protesting under the state’s “equal and uniform” provision actually compare their valuation to similar properties, instead of the much looser current standard. The bill also grants the right for an appraisal district to collect attorney’s fees if they win in court, deterring the practice many commercial property owners have of routinely appealing their appraisals year after year, regardless of the merits of their case.
Act today to keep this bill moving!
